New Delhi, July 22 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosting a farewell dinner for the outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday.

The incumbent Mukherjee will soon be succeeded by the President-designate Ram Nath Kovind.

Mukherjee, who became the 'first citizen' of the country in 2012, will have to vacate his office as his tenure expires this month.

The outgoing President was a Congress leader for decades and also held several important portfolios like finance and defence ministries earlier.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to attend the farewell dinner hosted by the PM.

The swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Ram Nath Kovind will be held on July 25.

He was named as the newly elected President on Thursday.

Kovind secured 7,02,044 out of 10,69,358 valid votes polled, which is approximately 66%.
