Kolkata, Jul 25 (IBNS): At least two persons were killed after a portion of an old multi-storey collapsed at Indian Mirror Street area under Bowbazar Police Station limits in central Kolkata on Tuesday, reports said.

According to reports, a major portion of the century-old building toppled due to heavy rainfall at around 12:45 pm.

Fire and emergency services officials, local police and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel rushed to the scene and after hour-long rescue operations, bodies of a male and female were found under the wreckage.

Kolkata Mayor and state fire minister Sovan Chatterjee visited the area later.

Local police officials said that the deceased have been identified as Himadri Pahari (38) and Hansh Sahu (20).

Rescue workers, however, said that no more person is still believed to be trapped under the debris.

"Rescue operation is almost done. Staffers of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) are cleaning off the wreckage and it would take one more day to finish the task completely," a rescue official told IBNS.
