Srinagar, Sept 7 (IBNS): The police on Thursday arrested Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik, media reports said.

Malik has been sent to central jail in Srinagar.

The arrest comes a day after the Joint Hurriyat leadership of Kashmir announced to hold a day long protest in New Delhi outside the headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) over arrests and warrants against dozens of hurriyat leaders since last few months.

Besides Malik, separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had announced to hold a dharna in New Delhi on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the NIA conducted fresh searches at nine  locations in Jammu and Kashmir as part of its probe.

The NIA raided  the residence of Hurriyat leader Aga Hassan in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.

On Wednesday, the NIA carried out searches at  eleven places in various parts of the valley and five places in Delhi.

Searches were conducted in  houses and business establishments of those suspected of channelising funds to fuel unrest in the Kashmir Valley.

The NIA is said to be probing all aspects of funding to the separatist leaders and how they reportedly used these funds to foment unrest in the valley.
