Delhi: Assam man booked for killing man in road rage incident

New Delhi, Sep 21 (IBNS): A resident of Assam has been nabbed by police in the national capital for allegedly killing a man in a road rage incident, reports said.

While the actual incident took place on Sunday, the victim died on Wednesday at Delhi's AIIMS trauma centre after fighting for his life for three days.

The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh, a 21-year-old, was with his friend Maninder Singh at a roadside dhaba, when a scuffle broke out between the victim and the accused, Rohit Mahanta.

The victim and his friend objected to the accused “blowing smoke on their faces" and while it ended there, the latter followed them with his car and ploughed into their bike, half a kilometre from the dhaba (eatery).

However, the police later nabbed him on charges of rash driving, but he was bailed out.

DCP (south) Ishwar Singh was quoted by The Indian Express as saying, “The accused, Rohit Mahanta, who hails from Assam, was initially nabbed from the spot since his Ford Fiesta had hit two more vehicles in the area. But he was bailed out in the rash driving case. It appears that the accused intentionally hit Gurpreet’s motorcycle despite knowing he might get killed. Hence, we have booked him under sections of murder and attempt to murder, besides others.”

Mahanta also hit a taxi and an auto on the same day while trying to escape the scene.
