The decision was taken by the party during the Panchayat convention with the grassroot leaders of the regional party held in Guwahati on Friday.
Assam agriculture minister and president of AGP Atul Bora said that, the party has decided to contest alone in the forthcoming panchayat election.
“We believe that our position in grassroots is far better than the BJP and the saffron party had failed in many occasions to fulfill their commitments to the people of Assam before the last assembly election,” Atul Bora said.
Apart from its president, other top leaders of the regional party including former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Assam water resources department minister Keshab Mahanta, Phani Bhushan Choudhury were also present in the convention.
On the other hand, AGP has again raised their voice against the illegal immigration and protested against the preparedness for providing citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshi by the Centre.
“We have always been saying for greater interest of the people of Assam. Assam had already taken huge burden of Bangladeshis up to 1971 and there is no question arise to take more burden,” Atul Bora said.
