Forgive us, we lied to you about Jayalalithaa's health: TN Minister tells public

Chennai, Sept 24 (IBNS): Tamil Nadu Forest Minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan has apologised to people on behalf of all AIADMK leaders for lying about former state Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa that her health was improving during her treatment at Apollo Hospital.

"I seek a huge pardon from you," Sreenivasan was quoted as saying in media reports while addressing a public meeting in Madurai on Friday night.

He said that no one actually met Jayalalithaa when she was being treated at the hospital but they kept lying to the people to save the reputation of the party.

"Please forgive us. To make you believe that she is recovering, we had lied to you that she had idlis, chatni and people met her. The truth is that nobody saw her," he said.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital on Sept 22, 2016 in an unconscious state with respiratory distress.

She died on Dec 5 last year.

Ever since her death, there have been speculations about foul play over her death.

Last month, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswamy had announced that his government will set up an inquiry commission to probe into Jayalalithaa's death.

Palaniswamy had said the inquiry commission will be headed by a retired judge of Madras high court.

The probe into the former CM's death was a long demand of one faction of the AIADMK which is led by O Paneerselvam.
