New Delhi, Oct 14 (IBNS): Union minister Smriti Irani, on Saturday, countered Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's remark on the Global Index Report that stated India has slipped three notches to 100 among 119 countries of the world.

Gandhi, a day ago, took to Twitter to attack the Narendra Modi government over the Global Index Report, drawing criticism from Irani.

Gandhi tweeted to say: "If you are hungry, be patient! So what if you have no bread? Hunger is a hot topic, these days Of debate in the Delhi Durbar! - Dushyant Kr."

Irani, who fought the 2014 Lok Sabha election against Gandhi in Amethi, UP, said the Congress vice president is trying to "run down" Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Union textile and I&B minister tweeted to say: "Not suprising that in his keenness to run down Hon PM, Rahul Gandhi maligns the Nation."

The Global Index Report has stated that India ranked 100 out of 119 countries, which is worse than countries like North Korea, Bangladesh and Iraq.

Pakistan and Afganistan are the only Asian nations that are behind India in the list.

The report has also suggested India has slipped 45 ranks since 2014.
