Producers of Vijay's film Mersal agrees to chop 'GST' scenes

Chennai, Oct 21 (IBNS): Producers of Tamil superstar Vijay's film Mersal have agreed to chop some scenes that referred to the Goods and Services Tax (GST), a tax reform launched by the central government this year, media reports said.

The objection was raised at a scene where the actor was seen to deliver a political dialogue related to the tax reform.

The production unit said they will chop off the scenes if they are necessary.

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan supported the film in the whole controversy.

Attacking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the row, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi tweeted to say: "Mr. Modi, Cinema is a deep expression of Tamil culture and language. Don't try to demon-etise Tamil pride by interfering in Mersal."

The film has hit the big screens this Diwali.
