New Delhi, Oct 25 (IBNS): The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday announced it will observe Nov 8 as the Anti Black Money Day.

Nov 8 will mark the first anniversary of the Demonetisation move which was taken by the BJP-led Central government last year.

BJP President Amit Shah tweeted: "BJP will observe 8 November as "Anti Black Money Day" to mark the anniversary of Demonetisation, a historic step of the Modi Government."

He said: "Demonetisation, Black Money SIT and other initiatives reflect our commitment towards building a nation free from Black Money and corruption."

He said: "I urge BJP Karyakartas to reach out to people and reaffirm our strong commitment for a developed India, free from all forms of corruption."

Earlier in the day, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had made same announcement.

"The BJP will observe Nov 8 as Anti Black Money Day," Jaitley said while addressing a press conference here.

Interestingly, the Opposition had decided to mark Nov 8 as Black day.

Nov 8 will mark one year completion of the decision taken by the Centre to ban old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.

Jaitley said : "We aim to make India an anti-corruption nation."

Jaitley said demonetisation was a huge step to make India a less cash economy.

He said top leaders of the party will travel across India to promote 'Anti-Black Money Day'.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said her party will observe 'Black Day' on Nov 8.

Nov 8 marks the one year anniversary of the decision taken by the Centre last year to ban old Rs 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.

"We will observe ‘Kala Dibas’ (Black Day) in all blocks on November 8 to mark the anniversary of demonetisation. Rallies will be organised between 2-3 PM. Prepare slogans to reach out to people," she said while addressing at the TMC's extended core committee meeting here.

Mamata Banerjee called the demonetisation as the biggest scam.

"There must be an investigation into it. I had tweeted within 45 minutes of the announcement. Today Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram, Arun Shourie are saying the same thing. Even eminent economists have spoken out against demonetisation," she said.

She said: "What purpose did demonetisation serve? Did it weed out black money? No. Did it put an end to terrorism? No. Only one party converted its black money into white. They have also stashed away their black money abroad."
