Chennai, Oct 31 (IBNS) :  Normal life continued to be disrupted in parts of Tamil Nadu  as heavy rain battered the coastal areas on Tuesday even a day after a heavy downpour, media reports said.

The weather officials have predicted more thundershowers for  the next 48 hours prompting authorities to shut  schools and colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Puducherry.

On Monday, one person was killed when the mud wall of a house collapsed due to heavy rains.

The heavy rain caused inundation of many areas affecting vehicular traffic movement.

Regional met centre said cyclonic circulation still persists over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka and extends up to 3.6 kilometres above mean sea level.

Fishermen were warned not to venture into the sea as it would be rough with strong winds from northeasterly direction speed reaching 45-55 kjmph likely along and off North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts.

In December 2015, at least 150 people were killed when Chennai received the heaviest rainfall in more than a century resulting in heavy floods.
