New Delhi, Nov 1 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in New Delhi on Wednesday, according to media reports.

King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, his wife Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck and their child Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, are on a four day visit to India.

They were welcomed at the airport by Swaraj, media reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a dinner in honour of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the royal family.

According to a Ministry of External Affairs release, the visit is an opportunity for both countries for reviewing the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation, including plans for befitting celebrations of golden jubilee of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2018, and to advance the special bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation.

After the Doklam standoff with China, the meeting between India and Bhutan takes on greater significance, the media quoted political experts as saying.
