Constitute special courts to try criminal cases involving politicians: SC
New Delhi, Nov 1 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Centre to set up special courts to exclusively try criminal cases involving politicians.
The bench, comprising Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Navin Sinha, observed the same while hearing a petition filed by BJP leader Ashwani Upadhyay.
Upadhyay sought lifetime bans on convicted politicians from contesting elections.
The apex court gave Centre a six-week time period to submit details of the scheme to provide effect to the proposal.
The matter will now come for hearing on December 13.
