AAP likely to name Raghuram Rajan as Rajya Sabha candidate

New Delhi, Nov 8 (IBNS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to announce the name of former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan as  its Rajya Sabha candidate,  media reports said.

Top AAP leaders reportedly discussed Rajan's have nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat at a party meeting.

Rajan was the RBI governor at the time the central government announced demonetisation on Nov. 8, 2016.

He had openly criticised the noteban move by the central government then and also later resigned form his post.

After leaving the post of the RBI governor, Rajan returned to academics.

Presently he teaches at the University of Chicogo.

The AAP  is entitled to three members in the Upper House whose term will begin in January.
