APSC cash-for-job scam : Guwahati HC rejects bail plea of Rakesh Kumar Paul

Guwahati, Nov 14 (IBNS) : The Guwahati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of former chairman of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Rakesh Kumar Paul, who was arrested in the cash-for-job scam in the APSC. 

Rakesh Kumar Paul, who was garnted bail by the Supreme Court in the case number 936/2016 on August 16 last, was re-arrested by the Guwahati city police on Aug 17 in a fresh case, ostensibly to prevent his release from jail on bail.

Paul has filed his bail plea before the court in the new case, but court rejects his petition.

On the other hand, Assam police has arrested 22 officials of Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS) and other allied services in connection with the cash-for-job scam.

On Monday, Rajashri Sen Deka, son of former Congress Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka, had surrendered before the police and later arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to 14-day police custody.

Earlier, Dibrugarh police arrested 16 persons including sacred chairman of APSC Rakesh Kumar Paul, his two associate members Basanta Doley, Samedur Rahman, Pabitra Koiborta, Nabakanta Patir.

On the other hand, police has issued arrest warrant against three absconding officers Rakesh Gupta (Assistant Commandant of 5th APBn), Rumi Saikia (Assistant Commissioner, Golaghat)and and Nisha Moni Deka (Circle Officer, Chamata), who are remained untraced since the police launched crackdown on the tainted officials on November 8 last.

Meanwhile, the investigating team of Assam police hinted that apart from these 25 officers, police will be initiated action against other officials, when the forensic reports of other answer scripts to come.

A top official said that, over 2000 answer scripts, which were seized from APSC office had already sent to the different forensic laboratories in the country.

"If anyone found guilty, police will take action and no one to be spared," Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay said.
