Rupani was elected from the same constituency last time.
Gujarat state unit President of the BJP Jitu Vaghani has also been fielded in his turf, Bhavnagar West.
Though the BJP has kept its stranglehold on Gujarat for long, the coming election has emerged as a prestige issue for the party with the Congress doggedly trying to make inroads and the powerful Patidar community sulking in anger and its leader Hardik Patel promising support to Rahul Gandhi's party.
The agitating Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) on Sunday confirmed that they have reached a deal with Congress, stating that the latter has accepted its demand for “quota in jobs and education to the Patidar community”.
PAAS leader Hardik Patel will address the media and elaborate matters on Monday.
The poll in the state will take place in two phases on Dec.9 and Dec. 14. The counting of the votes will be held on Dec. 18.
The saffron brigade is in power in the state since 1995.
