Delhi government to implement Odd-Even rule without exemptions

New Delhi, Dec 6 (IBNS): The Delhi government on Wednesday informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that the Odd-Even rule will be implemented without exemptions to fight against air pollution.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Wednesday submitted an action plan related to this before the green bench.

The plan stated that construction activities will be completely stopped once pollution level touches 'Severe' category.

It also mentioned that entry of trucks in Delhi will be banned.

Earlier in November, the Delhi Government had  withdrew its review petition on implementation of odd-even scheme in the national capital for modifications after the National Green Tribunal pulled it up and  refused to exempt women and two-wheelers from the scheme.

The green court had asked the Government why was it seeking exemption for women and not ensuring separate buses for them instead.

The judgment had read,"In light of hazardous values which is bound to create environment issues. It is not possible to change order dated November 11 order. Boards are expected to submit analysis reports in the next hearing, to enable the tribunal to modify its earlier order".

The AAP Government had earlier opposed the NGT's order, passed on Saturday last, askinng it  to implement the odd-even formula in Delhi without any exemptions for women drivers or two-wheelers.

The AAP had said that although the environment was important, women's safety remained paramount.
