Rahul most deserving for post of Cong president: BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha

New Delhi, Dec 17 (IBNS): Taking many by surprise, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shatrughan Sinha has wished Rahul Gandhi a long life after the latter took charge as the Congress president.

He also called Rahul as the most "deserving" for the post of President of the Congress party.

In a tweet on Saturday, Sinha wrote:

Responding to the message, Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter to thank Sinha for his 'kind words.'

Bringing a generational change in the Congress, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday formally assumed office of the party's President replacing his mother Sonia Gandhi after 19 years.

Sonia, the longest serving Congress President, had assumed the post in 1998.

Rahul was elected  the President of the party  unopposed.

Though Rahul has lost a number of state elections being the VP of the party, he is looking forward to the results of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections.

The Congress President-elect campaigned hard for the Congress party to end the 22 years of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule in Gujarat.
