Patna, Dec 20 (IBNS) : Suspected Maoists  abducted five railway employees, including an assistant station master (ASM) and a porter, from Masudan railway station in Lakhisarai district of east Bihar and set on fire the signalling panel on Wednesday morning, media reports said.

According to reports, Railway traffic on Kiul-Jamalpur section has been disrupted.

About 25 Maoists, including women, attacked the Masudan railway station, 180 km from state capital Patna, in the wee hours.

Maoists had  called for a 48-hour bandh, starting Tuesday midnight, across Bihar and neighbouring Jharkhand in protest against the ‘Operation Greenhunt’ launched by security forces.

According to reports, the  Maoists later freed three of the abducted people, but kept custody  ASM Mukesh Kumar Paswan and porter Nirendra Mandal .

The reports said the Maoists also threatened the Divisional Railway Manager to kill all the employees if the railway authorities continued train services on the section.

A high alert has been sounded in the state following the incident and security forces, including the elite Kobra, have been alerted.
