Srinagar, Aug 24 (IBNS) In a fierce gun battle, an army soldier was killed at Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Sunday early morning.
According to Army sources, a group of militants opened fire upon the army's patrolling party of 23 Grenadier at Mundian forest in Keran
early in the morning.

"In the attack an army soldier Sepoy Rahul Kumar, 22, (Belt no. 270831 P) sustained critical bullet injuries," sources said, adding that the
injured soldier was immediately shifted to army hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Kumar is a resident of Bulandsahar in Utter Pradesh and his body will be sent to his native village, sources said.

They said that the militant group believed to be 4-5 in number managed to escape after carrying out the attack. However, an extra contingent of forces rushed to the area to combat the militants hiding in the area.

Meanwhile, Pakistan continued to violate ceasefire along the LoC. At least 25 BSF posts in Jammu and Kashmir were targeted by Pakistani forces since Saturday night violating the ceasefire prompting the Indian forces to retaliate.

Reports said the unprovoked firing from Pakistani side continued till Sunday morning  in Arnia, RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors.

Earlier on Saturday after Pakistani Rangers  resorted to heavy firing at Border Security Force (BSF) posts near the international border at RS Pura sector in Jammu district killing two civilians, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said the Indian forces are responding effectively.
