Union Tourism Minister says Ramayana and Krishna circuits are being developed under Swadesh Darshan scheme

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IBNS): K. J. Alphons, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that his department is developing two circuits based on Ramayana and Krishna among the 15 thematic circuits identified for development under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.

The Ministry has initially identified the following destinations for development under Ramayana and Krishna circuits:

Ramyana Circuit: Ayodhya, Nandigram, Shringverpur and Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh), Sitamarhi, Buxar & Darbhanga (Bihar), Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), Mahendragiri (Odisha), Jagdalpur (Chattisgarh), Nashik and Nagpur (Maharashtra), Bhadrachalam (Telangana), Hampi (Karnataka) and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu).

Krishna Circuit: Dwarka (Gujarat); Nathdwara, Jaipur and Sikar (Rajasthan); Kurukshetra (Haryana), Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Barsana, Nandgaon and Govardhan (Uttar Pradesh) and Puri (Odisha).

Several projects have already been sanctioned under the project.

Rs 69.45 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Chitrakoot and Shringverpur as part of the Ramayana Circuit in Uttar Pradesh.

Rs 133.31 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Ayodhya, also under the Ramayana circuit, in Uttar Pradesh.

Haryana has received a sanction of  Rs 97.35 crore for the development of tourism infrastructures at places related to Mahabharata in Kurukshetra, under the Krishna Circuit.

Rajasthan too has received Rs 91.45 crore for the integrated development of Govind Dev ji temple (Jaipur), Khatu Shyam Ji (Sikar) and Nathdwara (Rajsamand) under the Krishna circuit.

The projects sanctioned under the scheme have a gestation period of 18-36 months. All the above projects are under implementation, the Minister said.

In addition to Ramayana and Krishna Circuit, 13 thematic circuits, namely North-East Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Desert Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Heritage Circuit, Sufi Circuit and Tirthankar Circuit have been identified for development of tourism infrastructure in the country, including pilgrimage sites under Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

The Ministry also has the PRASHAD scheme (National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) for holistic development of identified pilgrimage destinations in the country, the Union Minister said. Under the scheme, 25 sites/ cities have been identified for development.
