Folk musician Shambhu Rabha conferred Pratima Baruah Pandey award

Guwahati, Dec 27 (IBNS): Renowned folk musician Shambhu Rabha on Wednesday was conferred the prestigious Padmashree Pratima Baruah Pandey award, 2017 by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) in Guwahati. 

The premier student body has been giving the prestigious award every year to an artiste who dedicates his or her life for the development of folk culture in Assam.

Shambhu Rabha, a renowned folk musician hailing from Goalpara was awarded the prestigious award during a function held at Chandmari Swahid Uddyan in the city on the death anniversary of Pratima Baruah Pandey.

“I am very delighted to receive the award in the name of Pratima Baruah Pandey,” Shambhu Rabha said after receiving the award.

AASU advisor Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, president Dipanka Nath, general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Bipul Rabha and several renowned persons were present in the function.

On the other hand, the premier student body had demanded the state government to preserve the house of Goalpariya folk singer at Matiabag.
