Lalu Prasad is victim of political conspiracy, alleges family

Patna, Jan 7 (IBNS): After a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court sentenced Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad  to  three-and-a-half years' jail in the fodder scam case, his family has alleged political conspiracy behind this.

Lalu Prasad’s younger son and Bihar’s leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav told media that Lalu Prasad is a victim of political conspiracy.

“This will not affect our party. Lalu ji is considered a mass leader and the people are with us. The Centre has misused the central agency. This is a conspiracy to break the RJD, but we will give a befitting reply at the right time. It is a challenging time for us, but we will fight back,” Tejashwi was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

After being sentenced by a court in he fodder scam, Lalu Prasad had said he was ready to fix himself for social justice, harmony and equality.

Attacking BJP, he had said: "Rather than practising BJP’s Simple Rule - “Follow us or We will Fix you”. I will die happily fixing myself for Social justice, harmony & equality."

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Saturday sentenced  Lalu Prasad to  three-and-a-half years' jail in the fodder scam case.

In addition to the jail term, Lalu Prasad has also been fined Rs. five lakh.

The court on December 23 had convicted Lalu Prasad and five others and kept pending the quantum of punishment.

The case  pertains to their alleged withdrawal of Rs. 89.27 lakh from Deoghar district treasury between 1994 and 1996.

Former Chief Minister  Jagannath Mishra, who was among the other co-accused in the fodder scam case, was acquitted.

Out of 22 accused, 16 have been convicted.

It was earlier supposed to be pronounced on 3 January but has repeatedly been getting rescheduled. The Special CBI Court Judge Shivpal Singh had told PTI on 4 January that he was getting phone calls from Lalu’s men.

Lalu Prasad has already been convicted by trial court and sentenced to five years jail term in Chaibasa treasury withdrawal case connected to the fodder scam.

For him he conviction in 2013 invited a ban on running for office.
