Customs seize 180 kg agarwood from Guwahati airport

Guwahati, Jan 8 (IBNS): The Customs Department seized around 180 kg agarwood chips from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport in Guwahati on Monday.

The Customs officials also arrested two persons in connection with it.

A top official of Customs Department said that, two passengers from middle Assam's Hojai was trying to carry the agarwood to Delhi by Indigo flight.

On suspicion, customs officials checked the luggage of the persons and recovered the agarwood.

“One person carried 120 kg and other one carried 60 kg agarwood. They produced such documents which were doubtful and customs officials arrested the duo,” an official said.

The arrested persons were identified as Hilaluddin Ahmed and Monir Ahmed.

The value of the seizure agarwood is estimated to be Rs 5 lakh.

They were handed over to Forest Department for further enquiry.
