Kolkata, Jan 18 (IBNS): Three well known privately-run hospitals in Kolkata witnessed huge agitation on Wednesday after three patients died due to alleged medical negligence, reports said.

According to reports, a 2.5-year-old girl- Oyetri Dey, who was admitted to AMRI hospital in south Kolkata's Mukundapur area with high fever on Monday, died on Wednesday morning shortly after an injection was applied to her.

Alleging that the little girl, who was a resident of Sonarpur near Kolkata, died due to wrong injection and hospital's negligence, her family members demonstrated at the hospital.

During the agitation, few staffers of the hospital, including AMRI hospital Mukundapur's unit head Jayantee Chatterjee, allegedly misbehaved with the patient party and threatened them, a charge the hospital strongly denied with a statement.

Later, Oyetri's family members lodged a complaint at Purba Jadavpur Police Station against the hospital authority, according to reports.

Denying the allegation of any medical negligence, a senior official of AMRI hospital told IBNS that the hospital authority is looking into the matter.

"AMRI Mukundapur's unit head Jayantee Chatterjee has been sent to a compulsory leave while the hospital management has lodged a complaint at local police station against the patient party for physically harassing our lady unit head and attempting to vandalize hospital's properties," the official said.

Meanwhile, family members of a 54-year-old man staged demonstration at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Kolkata's EM Bypass area on Wednesday morning after the patient died allegedly without proper treatment.

Alok Das, a resident of city's Kasba area, was taken to Apollo Gleneagles hospital with severe breathing difficulty.

His family members claimed that the hospital delayed admission and before receiving any treatment, the man passed away at around 8:30 am, after waiting for nearly 1.5 hour outside emergency.

Later, the patient party lodged a complaint at Phoolbagan Police Station against the hospital while no reaction has been received from the private hospital's authority so far.

Another upscale private nursing home in Kolkata's Alipore area, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital, faced demonstration following the death of a 32-year-old man, who was injured in a road accident and was under treatment at the hospital since Monday (Jan 15).

According to reports, Gautam Pal, a resident of Salkia in Kolkata's twin city Howrah, sustained injuries on his right hand and left leg after meeting an accident on Park Circus-EM Bypass Maa (Parama) flyover on Monday and he was admitted to Calcutta National Medical College at Beniapukur area and later shifted to Woodlands hospital at Alipore on Tuesday after his condition deteriorated.

His family members claimed that the young man, who was declared 'out of danger' by the doctors a day ago, died in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Alleging that the man died due to hospital's medical negligence, his family members staged agitation at the hospital and later lodged a complaint at Alipore Police Station against the hospital authority.

However, the hospital authority has not reacted on the issue yet.

The city police, however, have initiated probe in these three cases, according to senior officials.
