New Delhi, Jan 18 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Thursday lifted the ban, imposed by several states, on Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film 'Padmaavat', giving a sigh of relief to the filmmakers, media reports said.

The film was banned in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat after Shri Rajput Karni Sena had alleged that Rani Padmini was shown in bad light in the film.

The Karni Sena had even threated lead actress Deepika with violence saying they would chop her nose.

The CBFC earlier announced that the Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer will be issued a U/A certificate.

The CBFC suggested the makers of the film to change the title to 'Padmaavat' from Padmaavati.

Despite the clearance by the CBFC, four states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, had banned the film in their respective territories.
