No Padmaavat screening in Rajasthan, Gujarat

Jaipur/Ahmedabad, Jan 25 (IBNS): Several multiplex owners in Rajasthan and Gujarat are not screening  'Padmaavat' out of fear of attack on the theatre houses by the Karni Sena members opposing the release of the film in order to protect the dignity of Rani Padmini, media reports said.

Padmaavat did not release in any theatre in Rajasthan.

The Karni Sena members even asked Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Prasoon Joshi not to come to Rajasthan as Joshi was scheduled to attend the Lit. fest, beginning in Jaipur on Thursday.

In Gujarat too, none of the multiplexes are screening the film.

One of the malls in Ahmedabad is even closed, NDTV reported.

In Gurgaon on Wednesday evening, a mob who are against the release of Padmaavat, attacked a school bus which was carrying children back home.

At least seven schools have declared holidays in Gurgaon and Noida.

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments' plea to overturn the top court's order of lifting ban on upcoming Bollywood film 'Padmaavat' which was imposed by the respective states.

The states argued they can impose a ban considering a law and order situation, reports said.

Despite the clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the ban was imposed by the BJP-ruled  Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.

However, Uttar Pradesh, another BJP-run state,  did not impose any ban on the film.

The film has been marred into controversy after several fringe groups, mostly Shri Rajput Karni Sena, accused the film maker of distorting history and portraying Rani Padmini in poor light in the movie.

The film stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in leading roles.
