Government formulated plans to uplift poor sections: President Kovind

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IBNS): President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday said the government has formulated plans to uplift the lives of poor sections of  society.

Kovind said this in his customary address  at a joint session of  Parliament at the beginning of budget session.

Highlighting the works done by the Modi government, Kovind said: "In last 3.5 years, out government have constructed more than 93 lakh houses in rural areas."

"Our government is working towards ensuring houses, electricity and water to all people of the country by 2022" he added.

Kovind also pitched for the Triple Talaq bill which is yet to be passed in the  Rajya Sabha. He said the bill will ensure respect to all women.

He also referred to the government's  work towards stopping the open defecation in the country.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will announce the budget in the Parliament on Feb 1.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the union budget will give a new flight to the fast growing economy of the country as the budget session is commencing on Monday.

Speaking about the upcoming budget, Modi said: "Budget session is important. The whole world is hopeful on Indian economy, progress and success."

"This budget will give a new flight to the fast growing economy. It will fulfill people's hopes, dreams" he added.

Modi also spoke about  governance over politics. Referring to various committees which discuss on budget, he is hopeful that all political parties will rise above politics.

Modi held a customary all-party meeting on Sunday.

Giving a hint to a kind of budget, the PM said: "The benefits of the budget should reach Dalits, poor people, farmers. We all should discuss, give suggestions and move forward forming a road map."
