New Delhi, Jan 29 (IBNS) : Vijay Gokhale, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1981 batch, took over as Foreign Secretary on Monday, reports said.
Gokhale succeeds S Jaishankar.
Before assuming the new post he served as Secretary (ER) from October 2017 to January 2018.
Gokhale was said to be instrumental in solving the 73-day long Doklam standoff with China.
His appointment comes at a time when India's relation with China and Pakistan have gone to a new low.
