Bengal by-elections: Trinamool makes clean sweep, BJP comes second
Kolkata, Feb 1 (IBNS) : West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress made a clean sweep in the twin by- election for Noapara Assembly, and Uluberia Lok Sabha seats as it romped home with huge margins.
The TMC wrested Noapara while retaining the Uluberia seat.
In both the places, BJP emerged the main challenger, finishing second and the CPI(M) managing the third spot.
According to reports, TMC candidate Sunil Singh won in Noapara by a margin of 63,000 votes defeating his nearest BJP rival Sandip Banerjee.
The bye-election was necessitated by the death of Congress MLA from Noapara Assembly constituency, Madhusudan Ghosh, who had won the previous election with Left support.
In Uluberia, TMC candidate Sajda Ahmed defeated BJP's Anupam Mallick by a whopping 4,74,023 votes.
The bye-election was necessitated by the death of TMC MP Sultan Ahmed.
The voting for in both the constituencies was held on January 29.
