Bengaluru, Feb 5 (IBNS): Priyank Kharge, the IT minister of Karnataka, took to the microblogging site Twitter to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi who addressed a large gathering in Bengaluru on Sunday evening, according to media reports.

Priyank Kharge is the son of veteran Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge, the party's floor leader in the Lok Sabha.

Tweeting under #NammaKarnatakaFirst, on Sunday, he said, "Welcome to Karnataka Sri. @narendramodi
We will be happy to help you understand the Karnataka Model of Development better so that it can be replicated across the country. We are  quite ahead in most of the sectors."

In another tweet on Sunday, Priyank Kharge said, "Karnataka #1 in startup funding, with a whopping number of 366 deals and $7.5 Bn funding in 2017. #StartupIndia should partner with us, & not follow Gujarat Model of Development, We can help the nation in innovation & invention."

While PM Modi tweeted, "Path breaking decisions with regard to more MSP for farmers and Ayushman Bharat will bring a qualitative change in the lives of India's hardworking farmers and those who cannot afford quality healthcare. NDA Government is fully committed to furthering 'Ease of Living' for all."

Kharge countered the PM by saying, "Farmers are TOP PRIORITY, says PM and he changes the definition of drought in NDRF which ensures that nothing is declared as drought struck. Does @BJP4Karnataka agree to the new norms of NDRF? Please let us know.
. #MahaMosaModi #KarnatakaTrustsModi."

When the state BJP tweeted on its official handle, "Ever sleeping @siddaramaiah will have sleepless nights after PM Shri @narendramodi's rally. The message coming out of this rally is simple, #KarnatakaTrustsModi" --- Kharge tweeted in reply, "Matter of another 3 months @BJP4Karnataka , you will be asleep for another 5 years. No princes from Gujarat can kiss you and wake you up.

The war on the microblogging site appeared to be spreading fast among the present and former chief ministers too.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tweeted, "I welcome PM @narendramodi ರವರು to Namma Karnataka - the no. 1 state in investments, innovation & progressive policies. Through a unique model of development, we have scripted several national firsts across key sectors. I am confident that Karnataka’s success makes India proud."

Former state CM and currently the state BJP president, B. S. Yeddyurappa, tweeted in reply, "Thanks for the welcome CM @siddaramaiah avare! Yes. Karnataka indeed has scripted several firsts - No.1 Corrupt State, 3,500+ farmer suicides, collapse of law & order, mysterious deaths of officers, transfers of honest officials, crumbling infra of Bengaluru."

As the Karnataka state Assembly elections loom large on the horizon, it seems the battle of words across social media is set to get stronger.
