Judge Loya death is suspicious: Rahul Gandhi says after opposition leaders meet President
New Delhi, Feb 9 (IBNS): Opposition leaders met President Ram Nath Kovind to present a petition where they demanded for a Supreme Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to enquire into the alleged mysterious death of CBI judge B H Loya.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the President, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said: "We met the President over Judge Loya's death. Many MPs are of the opinion that there should be an investigation over Judge Loya’s death."
Rahul said there is a 'suspicion' behind the lawyer's death.
"His death is suspicious and there have been 2 other suspicious death," he said.
"The President gave a positive response and said he will look into the matter," he said.
Gandhi said 114 MPs from 15 parties signed the memorandum presented to the President.
Judge Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case in which BJP President Amit Shah was an accused, died of a heart attack in 2014.
His death raised questions from certain quarters about the possibility of a foul play.
Amit Shah was an accused. Amit Shah was discharged by a new judge, who said there wasn't enough evidence to merit a trial.
