Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti meets Nirmala Sitharaman
Jammu, Feb 12 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday met Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman here and briefed her about the security situation in the state.
"Met Defense Minister @nsitharaman ji & briefed her about the security situation in J&K," Mufti tweeted.
She also shared an image where Mufti could be seen discussing issues with Sitharaman.
Reacting to the recent attack in an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister said 'dialogue' with Pakistan is necessary to end bloodshed.
"Dialogue with Pakistan is necessary if we are to end bloodshed. I know I will be labelled anti-national by news anchors tonight but that doesn’t matter. The people of J&K are suffering. We have to talk because war is not an option," she tweeted.
In the wake of the recent attacks on an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday gave out a strong message to Pakistan and said the neighbouring nation will pay for the incident.
"Pakistan will have to pay for this misadventure," she told media.
Five soldiers and a civilian have been killed during 30-hour-long gunbattle which started on Saturday morning after heavily armed terrorists had stormed the Sunjawan army camp in Jammu city .
Defence Spokesman told IBNS in Jammu that four terrorists were also killed who were hold up near the residential quarters inside the camp.
“Four dead bodies of terrorists wearing army combat dress and was heavily armed. AK-56 rifles, under barrel grenade launchers, ammunition and grenades were recovered,” Defence spokesman said on Sunday.
The operation now mainly focuses on evacuation of people from family quarters, spokesman said.
The five martyred Army personnel include Sub. Madan Lal Choudhary (1st Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, JAK LI), Sub. Mohd Ashraf Mir (1st JAK LI), Hav. Habib-Ullah Qurashi (1st JAK LI), NK Manzoor Ahmed (1st JAK LI) and L/NK Mohd Iqbal (1st JAK LI).
The civilian, who was killed, has been identified as the father of L/NK Mohd Iqbal.
