Kohima, Feb 18 (IBNS): With less than 9 days to go for the assembly polls in Nagaland, battling among the political parties and candidates rose on top as campaigns are continuing in full swing across the state.

All the 227 candidates of regional and national political parties and Independents, who are in fray for the 60-member 13th Nagaland assembly election, have been trying to attract the voters while the poll is scheduled on February 27.

War of words among the political leaders are also continuing during the election campaign rallies and meetings in the poll bound state.

Three times former Chief Minister of Nagaland and leader of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Neiphiu Rio, who already declared uncontested win from the Northern Angami-II constituency said that, Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu is today enjoying his fruits because of his leadership and effort in reviving the NPF party in 2003.

During an election campaign meeting for NDPP candidate Vikho-o Yhoshu from 14th Southern Angami–I Assembly Constituency at Kigwema on Saturday, the Chief Ministerial candidate of NDPP-BJP alliance said that, this election will be a test for leadership of both TR Zeliang and Liezietsu and NDPP and BJP alliance will form the next government.

Rio further said that, he returned to the state politics while the people of Nagaland desired his leadership once again.

On the other hand, taking a dig at the newly floated political party NDPP and Neiphiu Rio, Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang said that, Rio is a man who had started making trouble for his government in a bid to return to state politics and also tried to split NPF.

Nagaland is going to hold the assembly polls on Feb 27.
