Shadowed by Congress, BJP leading in 37 municipalities in Gujarat

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 19 Feb 2018, 01:16 pm

Ahmedabad, Feb 19 (IBNS) : The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party reportedly leads in 37 out of the 74 municipalities  (nagar palika)  in Gujarat in what appears to be a good chase by the Congress, forging ahead in 26 places, as counting  of votes for the civic elections  are underway on Monday.

According to reports, other parties are leading in four municipalities.

Although final results are yet to be announced,  the trend portends a heavy loss in the BJP vote bank as the party had won 59 of these 74 municipalities last time and indicates a growing resurgence of the Congress, which gave a tough fight to the ruling party in the recent Assembly elections.

The elections were held on Saturday, February 17.

. Voting was originally supposed to be held for 75 municipalities but the BJP won Jafrabad municipality unopposed.

Besides 74 Nagar Palikas (municipalities), results will be declared for two district panchayats, 17 talukas and 1400 village panchayats.
