Chandigarh, Feb 19 (IBNS): Amid Khalistan row, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday.

Though earlier there were confusions over the meet between Trudeau and Singh, the latter on Monday tweeted to confirm their scheduled meeting.

In a tweet, Singh said: "Look forward to meeting Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau in Amritsar on Wednesday. I’m hopeful that this meeting will help strengthen the close Indo-Canadian business ties as well as the deep-rooted people-to-people relations between our two countries."

Rubbishing all Indian media reports, foreign media CBC News had reported that Trudeau will not meet Sikh leader Capt. Amarinder Singh in the entire tour amid the controversy over the Sikh separatist movement that had linked the Canadian government.

The Sikh nationalist movement is a movement which aims to make Punjab region of India, a separate country named Khalistan.

One of the Indian magazines, Outlook India, had earlier mocked Trudeau referring to him as "Khalistan II. Made in Canada".

The magazine consists of few articles about Canada's alleged involvement with Sikh independence movement in Punjab, India.

The articles were supplemented by an interview of Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh.

Trudeau, who is on a week-long visit to the country, will stay in India till Feb 23.

Trudeau on Monday  visited Sabarmati Ashmram in Ahmedabad and Akshardahm temple in Gandhinagar shortly after his arrival in Gujarat on a one-day visit, reports said.

Accompanied by his family, the 46-year-old prime minister arrived in New Delhi on Saturday evening. He has already been to Agra for a visit to Taj with his family.

Trudeau along with his family on Sunday visited Taj Mahal in Agra.

The Canadian Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with PM Narendra Modi on Feb 23.

Both the leaders will talk and focus on key issues like trade, defence, civil nuclear cooperation, space, tackling climate change energy and education. Trudeau's visit is expected to deepen ties between India and Canada.
