Sambit Patra takes dig at Congress over Karti's CBI custody

New Delhi, Mar 1 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra on Thursday took a dig at Congress over former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti's five-day Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case.

Patra tweeted in Hindi, "Five-day custody for Karti Chidambaram. On the eve of Holi, black stamp of corruption on the faces of Congress."

A case was filed against Karti by the Enforcement Directorate in May last year alleging irregularities in the grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving foreign investment of over Rs. 300 crore in 2007.

P Chidambaram, a Congress veteran, was serving as the Union Finance Minister during that period.

The CBI had filed separate case against Karti and others on the basis of information about alleged illegal payments made by INX media.

Karti will be produced in the court next on March 6.

Karti was arrested on Wednesday in the case in Chennai.

He was taken into a one-day custody first.
