Tripura: Lenin's statue brought down; CPI-M hits out at BJP

Agartala, Mar 6 (IBNS): The CPI-M has hit out at the BJP over the post poll-results violence in the state including the bringing down of Communist Revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin's statue in the state.

According to media reports, a Lenin's statue has been brought down by several BJP workers and supporters with the help of JCB in Belonia town on Monday.

Reacting to the incident, the CPI-M tweeted, "You can break our statues but not our spirit!"

The CPI-M has also alleged that Tripura's new ruling party, BJP, ransacked homes of several CPI-M workers.

CPM state unit Secretary Bijan Dhar told The Indian Express that 514 of his party workers have been attacked since the poll results which came out on Saturday.

The incident has occurred two days after the BJP's uninstallation of the 25-year long Left government in the state.

In a landslide victory in the northeastern state, the BJP-IPFT alliance bagged 43 seats as opposed to Left's mere 16 seats.

Despite personal victory, Manik Sarkar's 20-year long Chief Ministerial journey had ended in a dismal show of the Left in the state.

Tripura was the last CPI-M bastion in the country if Kerala is discounted as its people follow the trend of voting alternative party to power in every state election.
