New Delhi, Mar 6 (IBNS): Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday joined MPs from Andhra Pradesh who are demonstrating at the Jantar Mantar here to demand for special category status to the state.

Gandhi joined the MPs and even backed their demands from the government.

Gandhi said he believed that an united opposition could could force the government to do 'justice' to the people of the state.

"This afternoon I joined the protests at Jantar Mantar demanding "Special Status" for Andhra Pradesh. It is my belief that if the opposition stands united on this issue, we can force the BJP Govt to do justice to the people of Andhra," Gandhi tweeted.

Speaking at the venue, Gandhi said if his party comes to power at the Centre in 2019 then giving Andhra Pradesh a special category status will be the first task for his government.

"I am happy stand here with the people of Andhra. Our stance is very very clear.  We are for special category status of Andhra," Gandhi said.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP), YSR Congress, Left parties and the Congress members were present at the venue when Gandhi arrived at the scene of protest.
