Ram Vilas Paswan offers advice to its ally partner BJP over UP poll results
New Delhi, Mar 19 (IBNS): Sending out a message to the central government, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said the ruling BJP needs to reach out to every sections of the society, while reacting to the stunning defeat of the saffron brigade in Uttar Pradesh by-polls, media reports said.
Interacting with media, Paswan said the BJP's twin defeats in UP by-polls came as a shock to him.
Offering an advice to the BJP, Paswan said the ruling party needs to mend its image among all sections of the society.
Paswan was quoted by NDTV, "The party lost both the seats despite running popular governments at the centre and in the state."
"They [BJP] need to change mass perception in terms of minorities and Dalits. Aren't there secular leaders in BJP? There are people like Sushil Modi, Ram Kripal Yadav. What happens is that their voice gets suppressed and there are others whose voice gets attention," he added.
Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is an ally partner of the BJP in the NDA, which runs the central government.
Paswan's comment came as a worry for the BJP after several of its ally partners hit out at the ruling party in recent times.
Telegu Desam Party (TDP) has pulled itself from the NDA last week over its demands of a special status for Andhra Pradesh.
Shiv Sena has already announced that it will go solo in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
