Guwahati, Mar 19 (IBNS): Security forces apprehended a hardcore militant of banned NSCN (K) in Nagaland on Monday, officials said.
Based on specific information, the Mokokchung battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) conducted a search operation along with police representative in general area Bhumnyu village and apprehended the militant.
The nabbed NSCN(K) militant was identified as Self Styled Lieutenant Pongnyan Phom.
A top official of Assam Rifles said that, Pongnyan Phom has allegedly been involved in facilitating the cross border movement of militants across the Indo-Myanmar border.
Security personnel recovered one mobile phone with SIM card, one Aadhar card, one joint interrogation Report and surrender certificate in possession from him.
“He had reportedly surrendered in April 2016 and had rejoined NSCN (K) in 2017,” the official said.
Later, the apprehendee along with recovered items was handed over to Longleng Police Station for further investigation.
