Assam Rifles bust NSCN (IM) hideout in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar, Mar 23 (IBNS) : The troops of Assam Rifles have busted a hideout of the underground NSCN (IM) in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday evening, officials said on Friday.
Based on specific intelligence inputs that NSCN (IM) leader Damting Tangkhul and other militans were present in in Sonking and Kharsang areas to terrorize and extort the local people, the troops of Assam Rifles Jairampur battalion along with special forces launched an operation and busted their hideout.
“In subsequent search, the column found the hideout consisting of more than 10 temporary hutments. The militants had been using this hideout as adhoc base for operations for terrorizing and carrying out extortion in the neighboring villages,” Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said.
Security forces have also apprehended a militant, identified as Ngshingbam Nalung.
Following interrogation the militant reportedly admitted having allegiance to NSCN (IM). He further divulged that he has been actively assisting and acting as a Corporal for the organization and is a part of a larger group of cadres led by the notorious self-styled major Damting Tangkhul of NSCN (IM).
