Delhi HC cancels Election Commission's disqualification of AAP MLAs over offices of profits

New Delhi, Mar 23 (IBNS): Bringing a sigh of relief to Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi High Court on Friday cancelled the disqualification of 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs by the Election Commission for allegedly holding offices of profits, media reports said.

The court has asked the EC to reconsider the case.

The AAP MLAs are accused of holding office of profit as parliamentary secretaries.

Following the verdict, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, "It is the victory of the truth. The elected representatives of Delhi were wrongly disqualified. The Delhi High Court has given justice to the people of Delhi. It is a big win of the people of Delhi. Congratulations to all people."

However, the disqualification would not have affected the running of the Delhi government by the AAP as it has the required number of seats to be in power.

The AAP had won 67 in a 70-member Assembly in 2015.
