Cambridge Analytica whistle blower Christopher Wylie shares new information on company's activities in India

New Delhi, Mar 28 (IBNS): In yet another major development, Christopher Wylie, the whistleblower who exposed the Facebook data breach scandal, on Wednesday unveiled several activities performed by Cambridge Analytica in India.

He made the fresh revelations on Twitter, a day after he told lawmakers in Britain that India's Congress party was a client of the UK-based firm.

Sharing details, the former CA employee tweeted, "I've been getting a lot of requests from Indian journalists, so here are some of SCL's past projects in India. To the most frequently asked question - yes SCL/CA works in India and has offices there. This is what modern colonialism looks like."

In the document he shared on Twitter, it can be found that Cambridge Analytica has been working in India for several parties since 2003.

The Janata Dal United is the only party has been named in the document shared by Christopher Wylie on Wednesday.

The documents shared by him also indicated that the company had conducted caste research for a major party in Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Cambridge Analytica (CA), the controversial data analytics firm, "worked extensively in India," whistleblower Christopher Wylie revealed on Tuesday while testifying before the UK Parliament.

According to him, the Indian National Congress, the country's oldest political party, was also a client of CA.

"They [Cambridge Analytica] worked extensively in India. They have an office in India... I believe their client was Congress but I know that they have done all kinds of projects. I don't remember a national project but I know regionally. India's so big that one state can be as big as Britain. But they do have offices there, they do have staff," Wylie was quoted in media as telling lawmakers under oath.

Cambridge Analytica has been named in an investigative report by Britain's channel 4 for having harvested data of up to 50 million Facebook users without permission and using them to help politicians.

Earlier this month, India's Law and Justice and Information-Technology Minister, Ravishankar Prasad, had alleged that the Congress has links with Cambridge Analytica.
Wylie on Tuesday claimed that the data was sold to CA.

According to reports, CA used these data to "psychologically profile people and deliver material in favour of Donald Trump during the 2016 US presidential elections," The Times of India reported.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has also decided to testify before the US Congress, in person .
