Hyderabad, Mar 29 (IBNS) : Seventy-two passengers and five crew members of an Indigo flight from Tirupati had a close shave when the aircraft suffered a tyre burst on landing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport of Hyderabad on Wednesday evening, reports said.

The airlines said that all the 72 passengers that included an infant were evacuated safely.

A fire-fighting team rushed to the aircraft as alert ground staff noticed sparks soon after touchdown

The incident affected the operations at the airport forcing the authorities to  divert six flights to Bengaluru and Chennai as the runway remained shut for some time.

“IndiGo flight 6E 7117 operated by an ATR (aircraft) from Tirupati to Hyderabad suffered a tyre burst while landing at Hyderabad Airport. The 72 passengers and one infant and four crew members are safe,” IndiGo said in a statement.
