India, Australia to sign nuclear deal?
He is scheduled to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Friday.
"I am hoping to sign a nuclear co-operation agreement that will enable uranium sales by Australia to India," Abbott was quoted as saying to the country's parliament by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Speaking on the issue, Joint Secretary (South) Sanjay Bhattacharya told media: "we’ve had 5 rounds of negotiations which were very productive. Our practice is usually to announce the agreements as they are signed. We will have a signing ceremony, which we hope would be on the 5th of August. I would expect that all of you would equally be anxious to see which are the ones that are being signed."
