Kathua, Apr 10 (IBNS): A group of lawyers have stopped police from registering cases against those who are accused of raping and murdering an eight-year old girl in Kathua town of Jammu and Kashmir three months ago, media reports said.

The minor was held captive by the accused at a temple and later she was raped, mutilated and murdered in Rassana village of Kathua, crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir police stated.

Lawyer Himanshu Sharma said some of the advocates had been protesting over the demands of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the case, The Times Of India reported.

Reacting to the incident, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, tweeted, "Shame on them & their political masters. An 8 year old girl is raped & murdered and these so called lawyers do not want to see justice delivered."

Abdullah even attacked some of the media organisations over the incident. He said in a follow up tweet, "When lawyers try to prevent Crime Branch from filing the chargesheet before CJM #Kathua in the rape and murder of 8 yr old #Asifa . You can well imagine where we are. #JusticeforAsifa"
