Unnao rape victim's father died due to septicaemia: Postmortem report
Unnao, Apr 10 (IBNS): Father of the 16-year-old Unnao rape victim died due to septicaemia, postmortem report revealed on Tuesday evening, media reports said.
According to the postmortem report, the father was not given proper treatment in the judicial custody.
The father of the girl, who had alleged raped by a BJP lawmaker and attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home on Sunday, died on Monday morning at the district hospital, media reports said.
The man was in judicial custody after a complaint was filed against his daughter's alleged rapists.
The girl had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator from Unnao, and his brother last year, but the police refused to take any action against them.
She also claimed that her family was being threatened after they tried to file an FIR.
Earlier on Tuesday, the brother of Sengar was arrested by the police.
The police has also set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the woman’s allegations of rape against the lawmaker.
It has been alleged that last week the woman's father was assaulted by Sengar and his brother. But instead of booking them, an FIR was filed against the victim and he was arrested by the Unnao police.
On Sunday, when the man complained of abdominal pain, he was admitted to the district hospital where he died on Monday, media reports said.
On Sunday, the woman, along with other members of her family attempted suicide in protest against the "inaction" of police.
According to CNN-News18, the woman first tried to pour oil and set herself ablaze outside Yogi's residence in Lucknow and then later at the Gautam Palli Police Station.
Meanwhile, Sengar called it a "pre-planned" incident. "There was an incident in their family and a case was registered. Police saved two innocent people, I am being made a scapegoat by them," he was quoted as saying in The Indian Express report.
