Several crore rupees worth gold recovered in Assam, West Bengal
Guwahati, Apr 13 (IBNS): The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday seized 12 gold biscuits and arrested two persons at Guwahati railway station.
Value of the recovered gold biscuits is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 60 lakh.
The GRP personnel recovered the gold biscuits from two persons identified as Bhagat Singh and Shahil and they were travelling by the Kamrup Express from Dimapur in Nagaland to Delhi.
The GRP personnel also seized four gold biscuits and arrested two persons at Guwahati railway station on Thursday.
On the other hand, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 7 kilograms gold and Rs 39.83 lakh cash in two separate operations in West Bengal.
Based on intelligence input, the DRI officials had intercepted a Maruti WagonR vehicle coming from Jaigon area along the Indo-Bhutan border to Siliguri and seized 2 kg foreign origin gold and arrested one person.
“On immediate follow up at the residence of the suspected recipient at Siliguri, the DRI team had raided at the area and seized Rs 39.83 lakh cash,” a top DRI official said.
In a separate operation, the DRI officials had intercepted two persons near Durganagar railway station near arport gate no -2 on April 11 and seized 5 kg gold worth of Rs 1.55 crore.
“Earlier, two persons had flown in from Chennai to Kolkata and were received smuggled gold which they would take back with them to Chennai by flight. The recovered gold in the form of one solid gold bar and three gold chains was found concealed inside the metal rods of a sports scooter cycle,” the top DRI official said.
The arrested person due identified as Md Dubeal and K Thikka Khan, hailing from Chennai have been produced before the Ld Court, CMM, Kolkata on Thursday.
