Prez, PM condoles ex-Goa, Maharashra Guv Mohammed Fazal's death

New Delhi, Sept 4 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday condoled the passing away of former Governor of Goa and Maharashtra Mohammed Fazal.
In a condolence message to his son, Qaisar Fazal, the President has said, “I am saddened to learn about the passing away of your father, Shri Mohammed Fazal. 
 
"Fazal was an able administrator and economist who contributed to the nation’s growth and welfare, including as Governor of Goa and Maharashtra. He ably served as Member of the Planning Commission during 1980-85. The nation will remember him for his valuable services and his pursuit of excellence in public life," Mukherjee said. 
 
He said: "Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey them to the rest of your family members. I pray to the Almighty to give you and other members of your family, the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss."
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mourned the death of Mohammed Fazal. 
 
The Prime Minister recalled Mohammed Fazal`s contribution to public life and prayed that his soul rests in peace.
 
Fazal breathed his last at his native place at Allahabad city in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
 
He was 92.
 
In 1999, he was appointed the Governor of Goa a post he held until he was appointed as Governor of Maharashtra.
 
Fazal served as the Governor of Maharashtra from Oct 10, 2002 to Dec 5, 2004.
