Naidu became the Andhra Pradesh CM for the first time in 1995 and ruled the state for nine years.
In 2014, he returned to his office once again, becoming the 13th CM of the state.
However, Naidu is spending his birthday by fasting over the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu's Telegu Desam party (TDP) has been in conflict with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government for sometime now over the special status issue.
Following the Union budget 2018, the TDP vented anger against the Centre for not granting a special status to Andhra Pradesh.
According to the instructions given by Naidu, the TDP had both withdrawn its ministers and support from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which runs the central government.
Naidu will continue his fast till 7 pm. He is joined by several other ministers and sitting MLAs.
He began his fast after paying tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was the principal framer of the Indian constitution.
